CATHOLIC PRIEST WHO BANNED IGBO SONGS IN HIS PARISH RECALLED

Remember the viral post of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos of February 7, 2022, where the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos suspended Rev. Fr. James Anelu for halting the Choir in his Parish, while singing an Igbo song.? Fr. James has been recalled.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos posted on March 9, 2022, a letter of his reinstatement on Twitter.

Rev. Fr. James Anelu, the Priest-in-charge of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ewu-Owa, Ikorodu, made some completely unacceptable comment about Igbo songs being sung in the Church and unsavoury remarks that do not represent the Catholic Church's position on common brotherhood of Peoples of all Tribes and religion.

For this reason, he was been asked to proceed on an indefinite leave of absence, to give an opportunity for a thorough investigation of all matters relating to his ministry in the parish. The leave of absence took effect from Tuesday, February 8, 2022 till further notice.

The letter of reinstatement reads:
The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most. Rev. Alfred Adewale Martin has recalled Rev. Fr. James ANELU, the Parish Priest of \holy Trinity Catholic Church, Enu Owa, from the indefinite administrative leave from which he was sent on February 7, 2022. Fr. Anelu proceeded on the leave following the allegations that he banned Igbo songs in his Parish.

Following a thorough investigation conducted with the Parish Pastoral Council, the Parish Laity Council and the Ad hoc Committee set up by the Archbishop, it was discovered that the posting on  the social media that brought about the Administrative leave did not give a complete picture of the incidence.

Fr. James has therefore been asked to return to the Parish in order to remedy the situation that bring about the social media posting and bring about reconciliation and unity in the Parish. In the spirit of the lenten season, he urged all the Parishioners to work together in collaboration with the Parish Priest for the greater glory of God and the good of the community.

He also called on all God's children to remember Fr. ANELU and his Parishioners in their prayers.

Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu
Director of Social media Communications,
Lagos Archdiocese

The current resolve the Archdiocese came to has sparked sentiments as Cyril Onyebuchi said he knows nothing will happen to him. The \Church always know how to protect it's Priests, even when the offense was committed.

Catholic Gists International so pray for Rev. Fr. James Anelu and all Priests Worlwide that they will be true to their calling and that the Blessed Virgin Mary grant them the grace of final perseverance. Amen.
